Dr Phoon Yishan, 38
Aesthetic Medicine Doctor
Tell us a bit of what you do as an aesthetic doctor.
As a doctor practising aesthetic medicine, I am, simply put, helping patients look good and feel good! Of course, behind the scenes, it’s a bit more complex and much more scientific. I do a myriad non-invasive and minimally-invasive medical procedures aiming to improve physical appearance.
By building upon each individual’s natural beauty and character, I can enhance their appearance, restore youthfulness and slow down the harsh effects of ageing. The emotional satisfaction these patients gain is much more intangible and can’t be gauged through a mirror. They leave happier and more confident, knowing they are not only in good health but also able to enjoy life to the fullest.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
This may sound a tad clichéd, but it’s true. My biggest influence has been my mother! My devoted stay-at-home-mum taught me how to zuo ren (“be a human being” in Mandarin). Every day, she taught by example the principles of integrity, the importance of love and compassion, the values of honesty and to be always guided by our good conscience.
She instinctively knows when to be exacting and demand my best, when to let go and let me find my path. But she has always been there for me. And now that I am also a mother, I truly understand her sacrifices for love and family.
Name the three things you always have in your Audi TT RS Roadster.
First aid kit. I’m a doctor after all! Shades that also double up as a headband, because you never know when you want to take the convertible top down and feel the wind in your face! And an extra CashCard—such a small and simple thing, but it can make or break being stuck behind a carpark gantry or fined by ERP! Luckily, I have Audi designed cash cards =)
